Troon Beach - sun, sea and sand for an amazing family day out!

With all the unusually warm weather we've been getting here in Scotland, we decided to meet up with family and take a take a trip to Troon beach.

We arrived around 11am and the main section of the beach looked really busy.  As we were there in a group (6 adults & 6 kids) we wanted to be further up the beach, away from the crowds.  We managed to find street parking (see map) with a lane adjacent leading to the beach 🙌 However, lane is quite narrow and the steps are sandy so do take care!

We picked a spot and set up camp 🎪 I had spent the entire journey (and the day before) raving about this amazing sand-proof picnic blanket that I had seen on a facebook ad, where the sand literally filters through it 😍  I can 100% confirm that said blanket is not sand-proof in any way, shape or form! 😑  Having said that, it is lightweight and folds into a tiny pouch, so not an entirely useless buy.  If you're as gullible as me and thinking of buying one for yourself, you can find the link here 😀

The beach was clean and the kids had loads of fun making sand castles, playing football and running in and out of the water.  We spent the full day there and the kids didn't want to leave!

At the main beachfront there is a cafe selling hot snacks and cold treats - my kids recommend the Oreo sundae!!  Toilets are located at the main beachfront (30p cost for use) along with a small playpark and minigolf.

All in all I would say this was a great day out for kids big and small!

    Troon Beach is a great day out for families!! We visited as a family a few weeks ago and a good time was had by all, the beach was not overly busy with plenty of space for the kids to kick the football about, have a splash in the sea and build sand castles, before having ice cream and slush puppies from the beach side cafe.

I should probably start this one by saying that if you want to spend the full day here, you had better be prepared to spend big money! 💸💸💸 Due to COVID, daily wristbands are now only available to season pass holders, meaning you can only use the rides by buying "fun points".  Points are £1 each and rides vary between 2-3 points for each ride.  This doesn't seem a lot but if you're going with three kids, it can quickly rack up!  For a full list of prices  click here. Edinburgh Zoo - what's at the top of the steepest hill EVER?

🐅🐆🐒🐧🐨🐼 First of all, I should mention that the weather was freakishly warm on the day we visited.  We travelled by car (me and the kids in one car; my mum, sis & bro in another) and when we got there the carpark (normally £4) was free...fab! Or so we thought!  The car park was heaving and as it's a one way system, we ended up in a queue of harassed drivers, while an equally harassed woman tried to successfully execute a reverse park 😒...35 minutes later and said woman finally makes it into the space - you can practically hear the collective sigh of relief!  We decided to leave the car park of doom and easily found a spot at a business park across the street (see map).  We joined the small queue and were in within 5 mins.  The zoo is a great family day out - there's loads of animals to see:  lions, tigers, koalas, and giraffes to name a few.  Unfortunately the big cats were nowhere to be seen on the day of our visit (probably due to the 30°C ...
